Summary of all Krogen 38's we've encountered so far

We've been wondering how many of the 85 Krogen 38's produced are still out there and where they are. If you have a Krogen 38, please let us know a bit about yourself and your boat.

Here is the list of all the boats and hull numbers mentioned so far on this site. I'll try to keep it up to date, but feel free to prod me if I'm falling behind.

First here are the ones with hull numbers:
2 Seaventure
3 Tradewinds, formerly Viti Levu
4 Sula

7 Greylag, formerly Goose
14 Meander

plus two more where people say they have a Krogen 38 but dont mention the name, and there is the trashed one from Costa Rica

Hi Bob,
Well, to me that hull number suggests hull 6, but the year is wrong for that. Is there another number after the 6? because a hull number in the 60's would fit an '85 year of manufacture.

Here's a link to past discussions about interpreting hull number.

Hi Thana :) Great to hear from you. The hull number is usually stamped into the hull here:

It's also in the anchor locker on the port sampson post right up out of sight. Will try to dig out photos of that.
Let us know if you find it.
Speak to you soon,

I spoke to the former owners of Carribbean Soul (Tom and Peggy Horchek)they say thier hull was number 6 they bought it from the original owners Joyce and Dennis and she was Joyden when they bought her. They renamed her Carribbean Soul and sold her 8-9 years ago. They last saw hew several years ago at Thunderbolt Marina in Georgia US they think she went to New England after that. Unfortunatly this does not jive with your list unless Silent Women, was formerly Truant, formely Carribbean Soul, formely Joyden. That would make the Carribbean Soul on your list either the old name or another Carribbean Soul which is a fairly common name.

Blue Chip was sold about 5-6 years ago in Stuart Florida. The previous owners Peter and Terri Silcox, think she was hull number 60.

This was confusing....I found what seemed like a current entry on a Krogen named Joyden. See this: http://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/st1/CoastGuard/index.html - you can search by vessel name. It showed a Joyce as a previous owner. It's home port is listed as New York.

I had no luck searching by Silent Woman or Silent Women. I tried Caribbean Soul and found a current certificate on that with the previous name as Joyden - looks to be a Krogen. Previous owners were a Frankel and as well as Horachek. That one is in New York also.

Burt,
I followed your lead and used http://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/st1/CoastGuard/index.html to search for the hull numbers of the Krogen 38s that names were listed for but there weren’t any hull numbers.

DORIAN is hull number UOI381401283 i.e. hull number 40. She was previously named EMERITUS. The builder is listed as United Oceans Ind. Corp.

HELLO TEXAS is hull number TMU381540284 i.e. hull number 54 She was previously named CYCLONE and AEQUANIMITAS. The builder is listed as Fu Hwa Boating Co. LTD

PELLUCID is hull number TMU381501184 i.e. hull number 50. She was previously named CHICKEN SLOOP. Funny name for a cutter. The builder is listed as Fu Hwa Boating Co. LTD

There is a listing for LIBERTE as hull number CBK38083A890 i.e. hull number 83, but her documentation expired in January of 2006. The builder is listed as Asia Boat Builder Co LTD.

I also looked up PEQUOD which I belive was Jim Krogen's first 38 but couldn't find it. I did find PELICAN which I belive was Jim Krogen's second 38 and turned up hull number TMU38174E787 i.e. hull number 74. No previous owner or vessel name. The current owner is listed as living in Satellite Beach, FL. the hailing port is also Satellite Beach.

There are actually 2 Krogens within several miles of us. One of them is Pelican....I think that's the one that is at the Eau Gallie Yacht club and is a ketch. The cockpit is much longer. I believe the owner bought the boat new. We met him briefly once. Haven't seen the inside of the boat. The story I remember from him is that the samson posts ended up with termites (within the first year or so) and he made Krogen replace them.

The other one is a short distance away from the ketch up a canal and I forget the name....the last time we went by it I swore I'd remember the name and then didn't write it down. We tracked the house down several years ago and left a note with our contact info saying we were another krogen owner and that we'd love to chat with them....no response.

We've met the owner of a krogen named Pellucid several times in the Marsh Harbor area. Should have gotten the hull #....what a great excuse to go back to the Bahamas  .

There's another krogen owner that's come to Vero Beach several times when we were there. His home port is Mantoloking, New Jersey...you've got to love that name. I don't remember the boats name though.....guess it's not as memorable as the home port.

I think the boat that you referred to from Mantoloking, New Jersey is named Haven.

I found another one: Canta Libre located in Seattle, Washington. Here's what they have for the # on the coast guard site: TMU381521284 which would make it hull #52.
